LCP Hot Topics and Forums 2015
As the year is about to end, let's look back at some of the most talked about topics and forums in Lipa City Philippines' wall for 2015.
1. TRAFFIC
Traffic is still on top this year. As posted by one of LCP member, "Lipa is now an extension of EDSA". Traffic is always a sure hit in LCP since last year. More Lipa netizens are complaining as current driving time is longer especially if you will pass roads in Tambo, Sabang, Lipa Uptown, Marawoy and CM Recto. It was reported in local TV news that MMDA has been helping Lipa government and should have laid out their solution last Aug 31 2015.
2. TRICYCYLE DRIVERS AND FARES
"Non regulated" tricycle fares is still an issue and one of the most talked about posts in LCP. Most of the netizens are complaining for a taxi-rate like fare to some tricycles in Lipa regardless of distance. On the other hand, there are also tricycle drivers who were applauded in LCP like Mr Sonny Silva for initiating a fair tricycle matrix and another driver named Henry for returning a cellphone.
3. EXTENDED BLACKOUT
Negative reactions flooded LCP last Aug 31 when Lipa and nearby towns experienced extended blackout when BATELEC scheduled a power interruption last Aug 30 for 12 hours but extended to about 7 hours. BATELEC representative immediately apoligized due to failure of a substation in San Carlos where newly installed CT of ice plant exploded after 12 hours of tapping conductors and corrections of metering system and hotspot.
4. LIPA BECAME A LONE DISTRICT
Lipa officially became a lone district of Batangas last September according to amended Resolution of 9982 by COMELEC. Lipa City has been separated from 4th district and became 6th district solely for Lipa City. The bill for creation of new district in Batangas was originally intended for Batangas City but was amended by Sen Ralph Recto to include Lipa City. Lipa will have its first Representative in 2016 and 2 additional Councilors for a total of 12.
5. ENGR AISA MIJENO IN APEC
Engineer Aisa Mijeno who invented Sustainable Alternative Lighting or SALt (alternative light source that runs on saltwater) became instant celebrity when she shared stage with President Obama and Jack Ma of Alibaba in APEC Summit in Manila. Aside from SALt, Engr Mijeno is also working as professor in De La Salle Lipa and from baranggay Tambo.
6. ONE DREAM PROFIT SCHEME
In July for almost 2 weeks, LCP's wall was filled with different emotions and opinion about the alleged One Dream scam. Many were believed to have lost thousands to million pesos in a system profit scheme. Victims have filed legal action for one of the biggest news in Lipa for this year.
7. CLEANLINESS & GARBAGE COLLECTION
Photos of piles of garbage in the streets of Lipa were also posted several times in LCP and remains an ongoing issue that is yet to be resolved. A Councilor claimed that Lipa is paying millions of pesos for a third party collecting garbages in the City. Apparently there is still a blame game in Lipa's cleanliness among the residents who throws garbage in open areas, the third party process in collecting the garbage, and implementation of existing ordinace in garbage disposal.
8. COMMUNITY PARK REPAIR
It has been posted several times in LCP the awful situation of Community Park at present where equipments and facilities were broken and stinking. It can be noted that a progressive and pro family city should maintain a decent and beautiful parks.

Crimes happened this year continue to shock the community of Lipa which is known to be religious and family centered. Lipa OFWs are the most affected and emotional whenever they will read negative news posted in LCP about killings in Lipa. The most horrific news was the murder of 3 children in San Nicolas and a student who was hit by a stray bullet in shooting incident in Lipa Grand Terminal.
10. BADJAOS
Badjaos become annoying to some Lipa netizens when they posted about their experiences to these minorities. As posted, some Badjaos were spitting or pinching them if they will not give money. While other netizens stand on their right to live and look for a better location to raise their family. Netizens are still yet to know the plans of Lipa City Government for them and for the safety of Lipa residents.
11. UNFILTERED TAP WATER
LCP's wall has been pounded as well with multiple concerns on unclean water coming directly from the faucet. There were photos and videos posted on how a dark water as it flows from the faucet.
12. FILING OF CANDIDACY FOR 2016
With only 2 parties in Lipa battling for 2016 Elections, many are predicting that the next local elections will be a tough road for both parties. As expected, Mayor Sabili will run for his last term against the newbie Fiscal Gary Mendoza. Another exciting fight will be between Bernadette Sabili running for the 2nd time as Representative this time for the lone district of Lipa against the former 3-term Mayor of Lipa and now on her last term as Governor of Batangas, Vilma Santos-Recto.
Most of the candidates are either with current position in the City Government or have previously run but there are also few new faces who will try to snatch one of the 12 seats in the City Council.
13. STREET LIGHTS AND ROAD ACCIDENTS
Dim or no street lights are still an issue in major and baranggay streets of Lipa as posted by LCP. They are looking for either repair or replacement of existing street lights in Lipa to at least help in reducing the road accidents at night.
14. JEEPNEY DRIVERS
Complaints and negative feedbacks to some unprofessional jeepney drivers were also became trending topic in LCP this year. These drivers were reported to be running their vehicle like they were in a racing match. While there were some jeepney drivers who will pull you off in the middle of the street and will immediately run without caring if you have safely got off from the vehicle. Netizens are suggesting for a tight issuance of driver's license and for the City government to be consistent with street ordinances.

MIMICRY: The emerging Indie pop group of Lipa
Mimicry /mi mi kri/, still a relatively young group, is an Indie Pop Rock group from Lipa City Batangas and inspired by the likes of local heroes, the Eraserheads and Livepool's Fab Four, The Beatles. The group was formed in 2012 when all members were sophomores in college. Following a series of covers in 2013 mostly inspired by OPM bands, the group concluded that doing covers was not their thing. Instead they embarked on writing their own songs and creating their own music. Mimicry has to be heard. Music is absolute passion for young lads such as Eric Gonzales (frontman/lead vocals/rhythm guitarist), Rhobin Marcial (vocals/lead guitarist), Edzel Faina (vocals/bassist) and Lhumel Hilario (vocals/drummer/percussionist).
They started doing small gigs , playing for different occasions and social gatherings. A lot of late nights and sacrifices. Mimicry is the epitome of the phrase "Earning the right to play." They share their own experiences of rejection, being literally left out for a show and not being allowed to play on stage just because they were nobodies. Many tried to write them off and turned down their music. Giving them the good old advice of calling it quits even before they have proven themselves. It was not the dream start, but if things are at worst they only get better. The nobodies continued working on their music, and mastering their craft. After months of long hours practicing and at times taking unpaid gigs just to get that chance to play in front of people, Mimicry found the right tone as the year 2014 ended.
Now they get invited by universities to play in their events. Mimicry had also garnered their own fan base which is small but growing fast. This 2015, things took an even better turn when a Filipino music producer from Australia took notice of their work by offering them recording sessions and an EP album, "Roof Pop" which was released later.
Mimicry have definitely earned the right to play as they have served as front acts to some of the Filipino music band icons like Kamikazee, Tanya Markova, Rivermaya, Silent Sanctuary, Up Dharma Down, Chongkeys, Imago, Ney, Slapshock and other rap artists like Delo and Smugglaz which is definitely not a bad resume for a group of nobodies.
You can catch Mimicry and their album Roof Pop at iTunes, Spotify, Deezer and different online mp3 stores. They will also perform live in the upcoming Lipa City Philippines or LCP group Christmas evening this coming Dec 18th Friday 7pm at Lorenzo's Place in Fiesta Mall, Lipa City.

PROUD MOMENT: Engr. Mijeno Talks About Her Invention In APEC
Engineer Aisa Mijeno invented Sustainable Alternative Lighting or SALt. It's an alternative light source that runs on saltwater. According to Engr. Mijeno through ABS CBN interview, “It is made of tediously experimented and improved chemical compounds, catalysts, and metal alloys that when submerged in electrolytes will generate electricity". Her invention won several competitions here and abroad and received recognition from various countries.
She made another milestone in her career when she shared stage with President Obama and Jack Ma of Alibaba during the ongoing APEC summit in Manila. Pres. Obama asked Engr. Mejino on what have been the challenges and how could both the private and public sectors be helpful in encouraging young entrepreneur like her. Mejino answered "Based on our experience, I guess what we need here is like a support system because we have the passion... what we need is the support system both from the private sector and the government to mentor us [guide us] on how we can scale up the product and we also need support in terms of funding... we are looking for someone to fund us to get the project moving" which drew cheers from the crowd after Pres. Obama pointed to Jack Ma after hearing the word fund.
Engineer Aisa Mejino is also working as professor and laboratory engineer in De La Salle Lipa and from baranggay Tambo.

Taza Mia is aggressive in expanding their branches in Southern Luzon which started in San Pablo City. By the end of the year they will open 3 more branches for a total of 10 with plan to branch out in Metro Manila and Southeast Asian countries.
Present in the occasion is the very accommodating Mr Rodel Lacorte, President and CEO of Taza Mia. Mr Lacorte is a true blooded Lipeño and certified coffee lover. Lady Christine's Baby Back Ribs Revisited
Originally from Kawit in Cavite, Lady Christine's Baby Back Ribs is now more than a year existing in their branch at SM City Lipa. They are the first restaurant to open in the annex building of the mall located at the 2nd floor.
I have been in this restaurant several times and their meat is absolutely different and highly tempting because of its tenderness and quality taste. No doubt, they have been awarded as the Philippine's Best Baby Back Rib Specialty Restaurant for 2015 by the Philippines' Best Awards and conferred them the Gold Seal of Excellence and World Class quality status.
This country style themed specialty restaurant offers menu from 99 to 1400 pesos per order. Their menu includes pasta, burgers, smoothies, desserts, salad, tuna, sausages and of course baby back ribs. I also got interested with their hamburger because instead of meat patty they are using pulled pork and it was served with iced tea and sweet fried potato for only 175 pesos. I love their dip for the sweet potato and dressing used in hamburger for it blends well with the pulled pork.
Angelica Sesbreño, Lady Christine SM Lipa OIC, is inviting their customers to watch out for their brand new menus that is expected to be available by November of this year. If you are looking for a cozy restaurant with world class quality food to eat with your love ones at reasonable price, please visit them today at 2nd floor of SM Lipa annex.

The second series of LCP Poll for President suggests that Miriam Defensor Santiago will be the run away winner in Lipa City with 83% total votes. Last Aug poll, Santiago was 3rd with only 8% votes while Duterte led that Aug poll with 61%.
It seems that Lipeños in general has chosen Santiago as replacement for Duterte who did not file his certificate of candidacy between Oct 12-16 as expected by many Filipinos. Far second is still Roxas with only 12% votes as compared to Aug with 16% votes. Poe and Binay remained behind Santiago and Roxas.
LCP Poll for President is a random & voluntary survey between Oct 17 and 18 participated by 1% of Lipa City Philippines group members with over 35,000 legitimate members. Official list of candidates from COMELEC will be released on Dec 10 2015.

Top Ten Reasons Why Lipa is a Better Investment and Housing Location
Lipa has been acknowledged as an emerging city in the south of Luzon in 2004 and has become a favorite location for investors and immigrants for the following reasons:
1. High Elevation - Lipa is elevated at approximately 1,025 feet above sea level which is believed to be the 3rd highest among the cities at least in Luzon.
2. Lower Weather Temperature - temperature in Lipa City is generally lower than the average Philippine temperature by approximately 3-5 degrees Celsius. Weather in Lipa is best to enjoy during the months of Novembers until February and sometimes extend to March to as low as 14 degrees Celsius. You will find here a lot of farms for breeding and poultry.
3. Protected by Two Mountains - Lipa is nestled between Mount Malarayat and Mount Maculot which makes it a low-risk area for natural disasters. These two mountains serve as a windbreak during typhoons. Mount Makulot, in the west, also served as shield during eruptions of the Taal Volcano.
4. Strategic Location - Lipa is in the heart of CALABARZON region and is only approximately 45 minutes drive from Makati via STAR Tollway without traffic.
5. Less Risk to Flood - with its high elevation, Lipa remains to be a flood free area in general but with climate change and torrential rains there's no more location anywhere that can be considered as 100% flood free. As for Lipa's case, there's always catchment areas all over the city but once the rains stopped the flood will subside almost immediately.
6. Low Susceptibility to Landslide - at least approximately 90% of Lipa's land area has low susceptibility to landslide except for mountainous and near Taal lake areas.
7. Religious and Family Centered People - Lipeños are generally faithful to their religion and has solid family relationship which make them a worry free neighbors.
8. Competitive Workforce - Lipa has a wide human resource for competitive and skilled workers which made the city among the Top Ten Next Wave Cities of the Philippines.
9. Little Rome of the Philippines - the attribute that is only for Lipa by Department of Tourism for its multiple number of religious houses, convents, and churches.
10. Highly Commercialized - Lipa is Batangas' most commercialized area with the existence of prominent stores and restaurants in the Philippines. It also houses world class golf courses and health spa.
Lipa City Government should create a long term & solid plan to protect the city from environmental, peace and order issues. On the other hand, people of Lipa should be diligent in following the city ordinances.

IN THE NEWS: Super Mega Manila Project
It was discussed in today's edition of TV Patrol [Oct 7 2015] by Atom Araullo the submitted plan of Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA to Philippine government last year for transport development of Metro Manila but has never been started.
In the plan, Lipa City is included along with the cities of Batangas and Lucena as regional growth centers in the south of Metro Manila. If this project will materialize, Lipa City will be included in the Super Mega Manila concept but will be developed independently from Metro Manila. Lipa will be strengthened as domestic gateway of Mega Manila and will serve as the leading center of the various activities in the region.
At present, Lipa City is projected to be the most populated city and highly commercialized center of Batangas. Buildings are sprouting like mushrooms in city proper and uptown of Lipa and commercialization has expanded to Tambo, Marawoy, Inosloban, Antipolo and Sabang.
Whether Super Mega Manila project will push through or not, Lipa City is on its way of becoming a highly dense population with more economic activities coming in. The city should be planning way ahead of what is most likely to happen in terms of housing, traffic, environmental issues, peace and order which is now all visible.

Boodap: Great Food In The Neighborhood
Whenever I pronounce Boodap, I can always attached it to late 90s song MMMBop by American band Hanson. Boodap is combination of childhood names of its restaurant owners who are Anne Pastor, former Master Chef Pinoy Edition contestant, and her brother Kesniel. They are from Lipa City and has finally decided to put up their own resto along Ayala highway just before SM mall.
Anne and Kes love to cook food since they were young. According to their mother, they are spending a lot for groceries but never in gadgets or clothes just to fill in their passion for cooking.
Boodap caters American and Asian dishes like my ultimate favorite among their menu which is Lemon Chicken with Raspberry-Mint oil. They also have Grilled Thyme Breaded Beef and Seared Peppery Tuna Steak from their Gourmet list. For Starters, they have Wassabi Tuna, Buffalo Wings, Beef Salpicao, among others. You can also choose from their Pasta, Sandwiches, Desserts, Greens for vegetarians, Desserts and Big Plates like Paella and Baby Back Ribs.
Their price is ranging from 140 to 970 pesos per order. For budget conscious foodies, they have 99 pesos rice meals like Sour Grilled Chicken, Grilled Pork Belly, Grilled Rosemary Chicken Fillet, Grilled Porkchop and Fried Chili Chicken Fillet. All is served with vegetables and iced tea.
Boodap also offers drinks who would like to stay overnight and hang out with friends. They have stage where customers are free to use if they would like to sing with other guests. Boodap would like to create great bonding experience among their customers other than serving really great tasting food at affordable price. You can also request to customized food or order anything that is not in their menu.
My Boodap experience was awesome and worth recommending to colleagues, friends and family just like singing MMMBop again and again. It's like eating in a fine dine in restaurant at reasonable price.

Most Favorite Lomi House In Lipa
Lipa City is a true home to authentic & delicious thick noodles and sauce with variety of toppings known as Lomi. It started in 1968 when To Kim Eng, a Chinese who came to live in Lipa, became so fond of cooking lomi for his friends and he became known for it.
We conducted a survey in Lipa City Philippines group, currently the biggest dedicated group for Lipa with more than 35K filtered members, to pulse the top most favorite lomi house in the city. Here's the result:
1. Lipa City Panciteria/ Lomi King
The mother of all lomi houses in Lipa is still the most favorite by Lipeños. Owned by To Kim Eng himself or better known as "Timing" with his wife Natalia. We included Lomi King along Lipa City Panciteria since both is owned by the same family.
Lipa City Panciteria is located in A. Mabini Street near Lipa public market while Lomi King is infront of De La Salle Lipa.
2. Liam's Lomi House
Located in Sabang infront of Limcoma, Liam's started as a small nipa hut type restaurant and eventually became bigger after it attracted more customers. Their lomi has several toppings to choose from like asado, chicken, and lechon. They also serve other Filipino dishes like sisig, chopsuey, barbecue, goto etc.
3. Benok's Lomi House
They have branches in Marawoy infront of baranggay hall which is open 24 hours and another one at the back of Lipa City Cultural center. Similar to Liam's, they have several toppings to choose from.
4. Renfel
They have branches in Sabang near SSS and the other one near Lipa public market.
5. Bee Gee's Lomi
Located in Levitown along the highway in Marawoy.
6. Traveller's Lomi House (Pangao)
7. LBN Lomi House (Marawoy)
8. 5 Brothers' Lomi
9. Lomi (Lodlod) note: no specific name just lomi
10. LDC Lomi (Antipolo del Norte)
Other lomi houses to visit are Centro, Rose, Sizzling Lomi, Japong's, LGB, MGM, Etring, Lomian ni Ate Gemma, and SheLomi. There were few other lomi houses in every baranggay in Lipa that were not voted during the 3 days survey.
If someone asked you where he or she can bring her visiting friend for a lomi treat, the above list may help.

SUNDAY MEAL: Lipa's Mary Mediatrix Apparition Declaration
"The events and apparition of 1948 also known as the Marian phenomenon in Lipa and its aftermath, even in recent times, do exhibit supernatural character and is worthy of belief." has been declared by Archibishop Raymond Arguelles, Archdioces of Lipa last Sep 12 2015 during 12th National Pilgrimage celebration in Lipa City.
"This is the first time in the history that an Archibshop has overturned the Vatican judgement from negative to positive [which is] a pretty bold move.", Brian Patrick comments in his EWTN News Nightly.
Michael O'Neill of MiracleHunter.com explained that it boils down to a great Marian devotion of Archbishop Arguelles and the people of the Philippines. He said that it will fall to the category of "Senses Fidelium" or sense of the Faithfuls have honored that title and the Archbishop is showing that with his approval.
The declaration was 67 years after Mary Mediatrix believed to appear to a former postulant Teresita Castillo last Sep 12 1948. She is now 88 years old. It was followed by showers of rose petals. It will also be remembered that the same phenomenon was pushed and supported by June Keithley, EDSA hero and Marian devotee, through her full documentary "The Woman Clothed With A Sun" which is still available in Youtube. June passed away last 2013 but she could be one of the happiest with this declaration.
The declaration will also trigger for more foreign and local devotees to come to Lipa and visit Mary Mediatrix Parish and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. One columnist in the Philippines comment that the place is easy to locate but they had a bad traffic experience going to the site and he is appealing to resolve the issue. Another devotee expressed her gratitude of the declaration as it has solidify the "Lourdes" apparition to Bernadette Soubirous in France.

Lipa City As Lone District Of Batangas Has Been Signed By Pres Aquino
House Bill 3750 was originally filed by Rep Raneo Abu to separate Batangas City as lone district of Batangas province last Feb 10 2014. The following month, Senator Recto proposed a move to amend the house bill in creating another separate legislative district for Lipa City.
Last Feb 12 2015, The Senate Committee on Local Government approved the creation of two new districts of Batangas and Lipa cities. Present in the affair were Sen Recto, Sen Marcos, Rep Mendoza, Vice Gov Leviste and Mayor Sabili. It was amended by the Senate on June 1 2015 and which amendment were concurred in by the House of Representatives on June 9 2015.
Finally last Aug 19 2015, Republic Act No. 10673 apportioning the province of Batangas into 6 legislative districts has been approved and signed by President Benigno Aquino III. Lipa City is now the sixth legislative district of Batangas separating from the 4th district composed of Ibaan, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Jose, San Juan and Taysan.
Next thing to wait is who will be the first Representative of Lipa City in 2016. In the news, former Mayor of Lipa who served for 3 terms and current Governor of Batangas (third and last term), Vilma Santos-Recto, expressed her intention to run as Representative of Lipa City rather than Vice President or Senator. There is also a news but no confirmation that the wife of current Mayor of Lipa City, Bernadette Sabili, is also interested for the post.

6. Make a list and shop early. Take note that the 3-day sale particularly its first two hours is something that people really look forward to so expect many shoppers as eager as you to shop. This is particularly obvious at The SM Store and Ace Hardware. One helpful tip is to hunt for your “things to buy” the day before the sale. Try to fit the clothes and shoes, tests the appliances and inspect the items you are planning to buy. The sales associates at The SM Store and Ace Hardware are friendly enough to reserve those items for you. Have your items ready on one cart so when tomorrow comes, you will just be paying your items at the counters.
7. Take note of the mall hours. August 28, opening at 9am, closing at 10pm. August 29-31 opening at 10am and closing at 10pm.
